LOVE SCRIPTUREFINED ĪĪ
“LOVE”, as we discussed last week, is a spiritual term. Only a spiritual man can understand what love is, talk less express it.
Love is gotten from God and only He knows what it entails. Hence we studying His word to know and understand what His kind of love means.
We looked at 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 last time. We’ll be continuing from there.
4: (KJV)Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
(NLT)Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud
– We always sing ‘your love is kind, your love is patient), as Mercy Chinwo did in her song; Excess love. It’s so amazing how we sing songs and do not register the implications of what we sing in our memories.
Love is patient. Jesus’ love is patient, meaning ours should be too. After all, we are just like He is in the world. Love suffereth long. God suffered long with His love for us, we must suffer long for the love we have for others.
Many people enjoy rubbing their successes in the face of others. There’s a big difference between sharing your testimony or successes with God’s people and bragging. Bragging is taking pride in your actions like you did it, when God did.
Pride is one thing that we would discuss on another blog post. There’s so much about pride we need to understand. Pride is honoring no one, simply put. Pride can masquerade in humility.
Jealousy is a fruit of not being content with what you have. Many jealous people started out as frustrated people who had no joy in what they had.
By all means, avoid these three vibers that can kill a man’s soul; jealousy, pride and bragging.
5. (KJV)Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
(NLT)or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged.
– Being rude is a characteristic of many young and even mature humans. Rudeness is just a form of pride. Being rude is regarding no one.
We must understand that when you love someone, you must be willing to compromise. You mustn’t always insist that your own ways should go.
As they would always say; ‘two heads are better than one’. By no means, never exalt your head above anyone else’s. Let God do the exalting. Understand people’s position and sacrifice to make it a reality. Your way is not the only way to do it. There are a million ways to kill a rat, they say.
Irritability is just another form of anger. If not gotten rid of, could lead to fury, which is anger too. In as much as you love someone, you should not get irritated at such a person. Irritation can lead to a distaste for a particular person. Also, never purposely irritate anyone.
Another huge problem is counting faults. Most Nigerian daughters can relate to this one. Once you break one plate, your mother would remember all the things you’ve done since you were born. She claims to have forgotten but at that point, it becomes glaring that she hasn’t.
Counting faults can make you hate a person. Always choose to believe good things about people. It’s more heathy for your mind and soul. Keeping records of evil is just tiring.
Finally for this post;
6. KKJV)Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
(NLT)It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
– Many people keep quiet in the face of sin and injustice. The society has made us like this. Just so you know, if you can watch a sin take place and you do not interfere or report it, you are unconsciously a part of the sin.
Sin is not only that you used your hands to do. Anything you cannot confidently relay to someone else is sin.
Of course you’ll be taunted and called a fool for following the right path. However, I believe that’s what the gospel of Christ is all about, right? Right living and spiritual consciousness.
Let no one deceive you, the truth should be your standard. Let nothing come between you and expressing the truth. The truth is Christ and Christ is the truth. Denying the truth is denying Christ.
Keeping silent when speaking is necessary is denying the truth.
May Jesus teach us.
Amen!
