THE PLOUGH

THE PLOUGH.

I remembered this morning while meditating this scripture that says; “Anyone who puts his hand in the plough and look back is fit for the kingdom of God.”(paraphrased)

Luke 9:62 “Jesus said to him, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back [to the things behind] is fit for the kingdom of God.”(AMP)

St. Luke 9:62 “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”(KJV)

I began to think and meditate and I remembered another scripture.

1 John 2:19 says;

KJV: “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.”

NLT: “These people left our churches because they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left us, it proved that they do not belong with us.”

Looking at these scriptures, you might not think they are related. However, I want you to read attentively, praying for deeper understanding of these words.

Now, a plough is a device used to break open into furrows for planting. It is often tines pulled on the ground. It is a device that is used for planting.

So, this means that a plough is a sign of pruning. A plough is something that prepares the soil for it’s destiny; growing crops and producing food.

Why then would someone put his hand in the plough and look back? Why would someone see an avenue for a change, a better version of themselves and resist it?

I’ll state a few factors below;

1. THINGS OF THE WORLD.

Many believers are still ensnared by things of this world. So many people are still driven by the things of this world. Many times, I pray that God should take my eyes off things of this world.

If you can still look at the things of this worls and be happy, there’s a problem. As a believer, your first source of happiness is God’s love to you. Any other thing is secondary and a product of the love of God you feel.

If you love movies, you’ll love it not for being a movie but because God created men who can put themselves in the shoes of others and be natural about it. You would be thrilled at how God can pour Himself into a man to produce sounds.

The things of this world are deceptive and tricky. They ensnare you little by little and trap you when you get hooked. It is considered a sin by heavenly standards for a lover of God to love the world and the flesh.

2. RESISTANCE TO CHANGE.

Many people do not wish to change! They enjoy their lukewarmness. They enjoy their depression. They enjoy their poor spiritual senses. They enjoy their immorality.

They might say they do not like or enjoy it but that’s just words. As we know, actions speak louder than words. You say with your lips that you are tired of your predicament but you do nothing about it.

Some go to people for counselling but do not take their counsel. For instance, if you’re battling with depression and you are told to study the scriptures diligently for a period of time and you do not, you’re indirectly saying that you enjoy your status.

If you hate a condition, you must be willing to do all it takes, in the way of the Lord, to make a change.

The world is a global village where you meet different people who posses so many character traits. The problem is not the character. The real issue is their willingness to change.

If you do wrong and acknowledge it and repent, asking for help to live above it, you have done right. If you do wrong and stubbornly refused to repent and make changes, you have committed a blunder.

3. PRIORITIES.

What do you prioritize?

In the story in Luke 9, a man wanted to be a disciple of Jesus Christ but he insisted that he needed to bury his father who was late;

St. Luke 9:59
KJV: “And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.”
NLT: “He said to another person, ” Come, be my disciple. ” The man agreed, but he said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” “

In another case, another man wanted to bade his family farewell, first.

St. Luke 9:61
KJV: “And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.”
NLT: “Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family.” “

Their priority was those who were within his home.
I ask again, what is your priority?

Your priority would drive you in life. Anything you prioritize would be your first interests in life. They would have your primary attention and focus.

What do you prioritize?

I want us to think of these words as we wind up the month of grace, May.

See you in the new month!💜
